Copenhagen – fabulous canals
The main tourist attraction in Copenhagen are picturesque canals. One of the most beautiful is Nyhavn. In Danish language Nyhavn means New Harbor but in a fact it’s one of the oldest places in Copenhagen. It was built more than 300 years ago for trade purposes. It contributed to fast development of this part of the city. A lot of taverns and “red lit” clubs entertained sailors. Rich city residents were building beautiful townhouses which are Copenhagen flagship to this day. Nowadays, Nyhavn is one of the most popular and picturesque places in Danish capital. Colorful townhouses, numerous restaurants and cafes and moored, wooden sailboats take one back to the…

Metz – the city of mirabelles
Metz, the capital of Lorraine is located in the northeastern France on the banks of the Moselle and Seille rivers, around 43 kilometers from famous Schengen. We won’t hide the fact that our visit in this “untouristic” city was in a fact connected with its good location, close to Luxembourg and cheap transport by Flibco. However, apart from its perfect localization and bus connections, is it really worth visiting? Well and truly, it’s worth visiting in view of its 3000 years history which is reflected in diverse city’s architecture. Here you can see beautifully decorated cathedrals, ramparts dated as far back as 13th century, numerous boardwalks stretching along Moselle river…

„Khowda” also called Gouda…
As a great cheese aficionado, I couldn’t forgo visit famous Gouda. We didn’t have much time so we caught hastily the first possible train. We felt really confused when we’re told that chosen train was going to Khowda instead of Gouda. After a fast analysis of our hopeless situation and possible ways of escape from the speeding train, I passed very timidly our “voucher” for the most expensive trip of a lifetime. Fortunately Khowda turned out to be Gouda and I took my tickets with a poker face from a train conductor. When we came to our destination and saw thousands of cheese decorations, we knew that it was the…

Torun – fabulous town
Torun (Toruń) is a mesmerizing city famous of its history, diversity and mysterious gothic buildings. Medieval, old town streets, townhouses built form red bricks, defensive walls and towers, located on Vistula river, create an unique atmosphere. Main part of the Old Town is the Town Hall. There, form the 40 m tower, we can admire beautiful view of surrounding old buildings. Just in front of the Town Hall, there’s a monument of the most famous Polish astronomer – Nicolaus Copernicus. However the most interesting, especially between the youngest tourists, is a little dog called Filutek, which guards his owner’s bowler and umbrella very bravely. Beside it, is a very famous…

Monte Cassino – Passer-by, go tell Poland…
Since I remember, I have always been interested in history, especially this connected with WWII. After visiting Monte Cassino, I think that even the best written history of this heroic battle can’t evoke such intensive thoughts and emotions as visit in this place. During ascending to the top of this hill one can realize how strategically important was this location. During WWII it enabled to control a large area of Liri river valley and most of all the route to Rome. On the way to the top it’s well worth visiting The Memorial Museum of the 2nd Polish Corps of General Władysław Anders which took part in this battle. According…

Artistic Warsaw – murals
Warsaw keeps surprising me everyday. It’s nice to see how it transforms into modern metropolis which in my humble opininion can compete with other famous European capitals. This modernity relies not only on urban infrastructure development but also on public space diversification. Street art is one of these components which create city atmosphere. Interesting murals can be found in various places in Warsaw such as gates or walls. What’s more, they aren’t only art for art’s sake but also they present an alternative and interesting way of depicting Warsaw history and people who lived here. The best way to see this uniqe pices of art is a bike tour, just take…

Dublin – city in the green island, flowing black Guiness…
Dublin like the whole Ireland, surprises by its diversity. There are certainly more Polish people than citizens speaking in native Gaelic language. In this city we can experience every possible atmospheric phenomena in one hour. Dublin isn’t only a city of economic wonders but it’s also the place where tradition merges with modernity. Dublin Castle and Christ Church Cathedral are the oldest buildings in Dublin. But the most famous building is the Saint Patrick’s Cathedral. The most surprising is the fact that St. Patrick who is mainly associated with dancing and beer didn’t like this alcohol and to make matters worse he wasn’t even Irish. He had been held captive…

Hobbits’ stronghold in Helsinki neighborhood
Suomenlinna stronghold, located in 6 islands, is a very important point in Helsinki touristic map. It was built in the half XVIII century by the Swedish in order to defense against Russians. In that times it was the biggest building in the kingdom and the second – largest city in Finland. After a long siege it was finally conquered by Russians in 1808. In view of its strategic location, Russians decided to move the capital of Finland from Turku to Helsinki in 1812. Fortress remained under Russians rule till 1917, when Finland regained independence. These days it doesn’t have military significance but it’s a very interesting historic monument. The most…

Helsinki
We stopped off in Helsinki during our journey from Tallinn to Sankt Petersburg. This city, well known for its leafy surroundings and interesting architecture merging Finnish minimalism with Russian grandeur, is actually an archipelago of more than 300 islands. The city is famous of white nights in June and July and intensive nightlife. Gathering information about Helsinki before our trip, I was surprised that regardless the highest alcohol prices, there’s the biggest sobering chamber in Europe! This riddle was solved during our ferry trip form Tallinn. The Finnish – Estonian border is very busy. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw a lot of passengers trailing carts filled to the…
